Coffee Morning

We all know the panic of not being able to find something important, like our phone or keys. We search frantically, going back to all the same places hundreds of times and imagining the worst scenarios of where it might have ended up. The times when we find what we’ve lost bring huge relief!

I recently lost my wedding ring. We tried to think of everywhere it could have gone. Where could it possibly have slipped off? Had I taken it off absent-mindedly and put it down somewhere? Everyone prayed that I would find it. Eventually, my wife found it in the bed. We still don’t really have a clue as to how it got there but we were able to rejoice that it had been found with those who had prayed.

In Luke’s Gospel (chapter 15, verses 8-10), Jesus told the story of something that was lost – a valuable coin, which was just like losing a wedding ring. The woman who lost the coin was so concerned about finding it that she lit a lamp, swept the house and carefully searched until she found it. She told her friends “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin” (verse 9). Then Jesus gave the point of the story: “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (verse 10).

Just pause for a moment and think about those words. If there is joy in the presence of the angels of God when one sinner repents who is doing the rejoicing? The wonderful and amazing truth is that God is revealing His joy to heaven when men, women and young people come to know Him.

People are of great value to God. He sent His only Son, Jesus, into the world so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have real life, a life that lasts forever in God. To make this possible Jesus paid the ultimate price by dying on the cross to rescue us from our sin. Jesus made it possible for us to be forgiven by God and to have a real relationship with Him as we put Him in charge of our lives. Just think; if you are a Christian, what rejoicing there was in heaven when you came to know God! If you don’t yet know Jesus then now is the time to turn to Him and know the real life that only He can give you and God will rejoice in heaven as you trust in him.

Isn’t this good news worth sharing?! That Jesus came to find those who were lost so that we could be brought back to God. Let’s make sure we share it with others so that they can know the joy of Jesus finding them, too!
